Acupuncture

What is Acupuncture?

In acupuncture treatment, fine, sterile, single use disposable needles are inserted into appropriate acupuncture points based on an assessment. The majority of patients experience little or no discomfort. Acupuncture helps the body to self-regulate, relieving pain and restoring health.

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM)

Originated in China more than 2,500 years ago. Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) believes that a vital energy or life force called qi (pronounced “chi”) circulates in the body through a system of pathways called meridians.Health is an ongoing process of maintaining balance and harmony in the circulation of qi. When there is excess or deficiency of qi or it is blocked along the meridians, pain, illness, bodily dysfunction or disease ensues.By inserting needles into specific points along these meridians, acupuncturists believe that your energy flow will re-balance to promote healing and well-being and restore balance to the body.

Medical Acupuncture

From a modern scientific perspective/Medical Acupuncture, it is understood that needling of the acupuncture points stimulates the nervous system. This causes the body to release chemicals into the muscles, spinal cord, and brain that can alleviate the pain or trigger further chemical and hormonal releases that influence the body's internal regulating system.
